Germany: Reinhard Grindel resigns as president of the DFB after reports in the German daily Bild

Reinhard Grindel has resigned, with immediate effect, from his position as president of the DFB during a conference call to the executive committee of the German Football Association on 02/04/2019.

The German daily Bild reported on 29/03/2019 that Reinhard Grindel had received €78,000 as chairman of the supervisory board of a subsidiary of the Federation. On 01/04/2019, Bild added that he had accepted a luxury watch for his birthday in September 2017 from Grigoriy Surkis (UKR), then vice-president of UEFA (now an honorary member of the European body since 07/02/2019).

"Rainer Koch and Reinhard Rauball, both first vice-presidents of the DFB, will take over the leadership of the Association on an interim basis until the its next assembly in September. Grindel will continue to hold his international positions on the FIFA Council and UEFA executive committee, where he was personally elected, in close consultation with the DFB," said the DFB.
