Franck Riester, French Minister of Culture, and Roxana Maracineanu, French Minister of Sports, have opened a public consultation regarding the list of sporting events deemed of "major importance", and therefore mandated to be available via free-to-air TV broadcasting, announced the two ministries on 02/04/2019. The last formal review of this list was in May 2016.

"One of the main objectives of this report is to modernise the law decree n° 2004-1392 of 22/12/2004, relating to the broadcasting on free-to-air TV channels of the events of major importance." A previous consultation, organised between 10/03 and on 21/04/2017, focused on the implementation of recommendations (from 2016). In view of the contributions received during this consultation aims for another modernisation of the list of protected events, in particular to improve the visibility of women's sport and disabled sport. This consultation also concerns a possible evolution of the framework of the initial allocation of rights of all or part of these events," added the two French ministries.
