Asia: Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa re-elected as AFC president for another four year term (2019-23)

Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, president of the AFC and the sole candidate in the running for the presidency, has been re-elected for a four-year term at the 29^th AFC Congress, held in Kuala Lumpur (MAS) on 06/04/2019.

Sheikh Salman, who recently lost his mother, did not attend the Congress. He became president of the AFC on 02/05/2013, after the corruption scandal that led to a lifetime ban for his predecessor, Mohamed bin Hammam (QAT), during the middle of his term. Salman completed Hammam's mandate before being re-elected for a four-year term in 2015. "I am proud of what we have achieved in that time and I am not ready to leave this organisation into a state of chaos. We have all seen what the AFC was before, and we have seen what it looks like now and I hope that we can continue that progress," said Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa who announced, on 26/09/2018, his intention to run as a candidate for the 2019-23 period.
