Spain: RFEF wants to redesign the Copa del Rey and Supercopa ("Final Four" outside Spain in January)

Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, informed the members of the board of directors of the project to redesign the formats of the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de España, during a meeting held at the "Ciudad del Fútbol, the headquarters of the Royal Spanish Football Federation in Madrid (ESP), on 09/04/2019.

• Copa del Rey: each round would be played over a single match, on the pitch of the lower ranked team, until the semi-finals which would be played over two legs.
• Supercopa de España: the RFEF wants to organise a "Final Four" outside of Spain in January. In the semi-finals, the Spanish champions would face the Copa del Rey finalists, while the winner of the Copa del Rey would play versus the runners up of the Spanish league.

"Both initiatives represent an important reduction of matches in the calendar for the coming seasons and must be approved on 29/04/2019 at the Extraordinary General Assembly to be held at the headquarters of the Federation (on Monday 29/04/2019)," said the RFEF.
