Neymar affair: Brazilian companies could break sponsorship negotiations

Several Brazilian companies could have broken negotiations with Neymar (FC Barcelona) regarding sponsorship contracts, announced the Spanish daily Marca, on 05/02/2014.

The controversy surrounding the conditions of the transfer of the Brazilian player from FC Santos (Brazilian Serie A) to FC Barcelona on 03/06/2013 constitute "negative publicity" for partner companies. However, no sponsors currently linked to Neymar has announced plans to terminate their contract.

According to Marca, different sponsorship contracts would provide Neymar more than €35 million per year.

  • Neymar was transferred to Barcelona, from Brazilian club Santos on 03/06/2013, for €57 million.
    • €17 million was paid to Santos
    • €40 million was paid to the DIS, TEISA (Terceira Estrela Investimentos SA) and N&N companies, who each held a portion of the economic rights of the player - though the Spanish club does not specify the share of each, citing "privacy reasons."
