"We heard (in the media) that someone wanted to buy the club and that the current owner did not want to give it away, and that he has been saying this over and over again in the last few weeks. So you can imagine that I had Chien Lee (president of the supervisory board) and the other investors on the phone as soon as the article was published. There was no willingness on his part to make a comment, for the simple reason that he has said this repeatedly: they (the shareholders) are here for the long term," said Gauthier Ganaye, president of OGC Nice (Ligue 1 Conforama), on 07/04/2019.

These comments follow the publication, on 04/04/2019, of an article in the local daily Nice-Matin mentioning the willingness of British businessman Jim Ratcliffe to buy OGC Nice. With one of the largest fortunes in the UK, Jim Ratcliffe is head of Ineos, a chemical company that already owns the Swiss club Lausanne-Sport (Challenge League, division 2).
