Total 2019 AFCON (first edition with 24 teams): opening match Egypt - Zimbabwe on 21/06/2019

Egypt - Zimbabwe will be the opening match of the Total 2019 AFCON (21/06-19/07/2019), at the Cairo International Stadium (EGY), on 21/06/2019. The draw for the final phase of the 32^nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations was held at the foot of the pyramids of Giza, near Cairo, on 12/04/2019. Egypt, in Group A, will also face DR Congo and Uganda.

After screening a documentary about the history of the Africa Cup of Nations since its inception in 1957, Ahmad Ahmad, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), thanked Egypt and its President, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi "for his strong commitment to making the greatest continental football tournament a success."

The CAF president also thanked the 51 nations that took part in the AFCON qualifiers, including those that qualified for the final stages of the tournement, which is the first edition with 24 teams (instead of 16).
