UEFA: new leadership programme for women of the 54 European federations

A support programme for women involved in the 54 member associations of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) will be launched in 2014, announced the European body on 05/02/2014.

The aim of the WFLP (Women in Football Leadership Programme) will be to accelerate the process of feminisation within the national federations. Its purpose will be to locate potential female executives, and help them develop their skills. The programme will also support women already in leadership positions.

"Football has come a long way over the last few years, but there is still an evident lack of women in top-level positions. More needs to be done to change perspectives and increase opportunities. (...) This programme, launching later this year, has adopted an innovative approach by locating and developing potential female executives from the 54 member associations and helping them climb up the ladder of promotion," said Norwegian Karen Espelund, the only female member of the UEFA executive committee (consisting of one president, 15 elected members and one woman appointed by the Executive…
