OTT: Disney targets between 8-12 million ESPN+ subscribers in the USA by 2024

ESPN+, an American OTT sports platform, could have between 8 and 12 million subscribers by 2024, according to its parent company The Walt Disney Company on 11/04/2019. The platform, which launched on 12/04/2018 in the United States at a monthly rate of $4.99 (€4), has "over two million" subscribers, said the group.

According to Christine McCarthy, chief financial officer of The Walt Disney Company, operating losses for ESPN+ are expected to reach $650m (€575m) per year in the financial years 2019 and 2020, however, the OTT platform should become profitable by the year 2023.

ESPN+ could have 2.7 million subscribers by the end of 2019, 3.9 million by the end of 2020 and 6.7 million by 2022, according to analysts at the American bank Morgan Stanley.
