Rugby: a loss of €1.09m and turnover of €110.9m for New Zealand Rugby in 2018

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) posted a loss of NZ$1.863m (-€1.09m) for the financial year 2018, according to the body on 18/04/2019. The turnover of the governing body amounted to NZ$189.5m (€110.9m) compared to NZ$257.2m (€150m) in 2017 (-26.3%).

"Although we are pleased with our latest financial result, under budget with a loss of $1.9m, these are still challenging times for rugby and our long-term financial projections still show us spending more money than we are earning," said Brent Impey, chairman of NZR, and CEO Steve Tew.

Broadcasting revenues decreased by 29.8% from NZ$104.5. (€60.8m) to NZ$73.3m (€42.8m). Sponsorship revenue amounted to NZ$68m (€39.7m, +9%). Matchday revenue was down by NZ$36.5m (€21.3m), but the 2017 calendar included matches from the DHL New Zealand Lions Series, a popular rugby event (see below).
