Spain: LaLiga opposes the format changes to the Supercopa de España and Copa del Rey

"The LaLiga General Assembly has agreed at the meeting held today and by the majority of its members (secret ballot with 39.7 votes in favor, 2.2 against and 1.1 abstention) not to support the format changes of the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de España proposed by the RFEF," announced the Spanish professional football league on 24/04/2019.

"The next Supercopa de España should be played outside of Spain with a 'final four' format," said Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, who presented the new format at an assembly of the Federation on 19/02/2019. "In this way, the top two of the Spanish first division (LaLiga Santander) and the two finalists of the Copa del Rey would face in a semi-finals and final format," added the Spanish Federation who also planned single matches in the Copa del Rey up to the semi-finals (instead of return leg matches from the Round of 16 to the semi-finals).
