Italy: Mediaset wins TV rights for Champions League 2015-2018 worth €700m

Italian Silvio Berlusconi's free and pay-TV company, Mediaset, won the exclusive broadcasting rights in Italy for the Champions League from 2015-2018, on 10/02/2014. The amount of the acquisition is estimated by Italian media to be worth €700m, or just over €230m per season.

The rights acquired by Mediaset via TEAM Marketing, the media rights agency that sells TV rights for the interclub competitions of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), cover broadcasting on TV, internet and mobile for all matches of the Champions League live and delayed, and highlights of these matches. On TV, the content will be broadcast on pay channels offered to Mediaset Premium members, but each week one match will also be broadcast on the free channels of the Italian TV company.

The rights acquired by Mediaset also cover the 2015 to 2018 editions of the UEFA Super Cup, which pits the winner of the Champions League against the one from the Europa League.
