Brazil 2014: workers at Manaus stadium threatening to strike after the death of a worker

Stadium workers at Manaus have threatened to strike and demanded safer work conditions on 10/02/2014, after the death of a worker aged 55 on 07/02/2014, during the dismantling of a crane.

"We demand more safety for workers. We know that the construction company does not want any deaths, but we need work safety issues to be better managed," said Ricardo Botelho, president of the union of heavy construction on 10/02/2014.

Miguel Copabiango, the city's World Cup secretary in Manaus said that an investigation was underway and that the work will not be delayed. No opening date has yet been set, but the venue should be delivered on 14/02/2014. The construction company indicated on 10/02/2014 that Arena Amazonia "is 96.58% complete."
