South America: Umbro biggest equipment supplier in 2014 edition of the Copa Libertadores

Umbro has had the largest presence of any equipment supplier at the 2014 edition of the Copa Bridgestone Libertadores which began with the match between Botafogo (BRA) and San Lorenzo (ARG) (2-0, Group 2), on 11/02/2014.

The sports equipment brand, owned by the U.S. group Iconix, is the official supplier of five South American clubs, but Umbro is not under contract with any of the major clubs on the continent. The company largely engages in simple "sport team" contracts.

Umbro supplies 15.6% of the 32 participating clubs, against 9.4% for the German brand Puma and 9.4% for the Brazilian brand Topper. Both Nike and Adidas, major global suppliers, partner with only three teams. The Brazilian club Flamengo Brazilian and the Chilean club Universidad de Chile for Adidas, and the Colombian club Atletico Nacional for Nike.
