2019 Copa del Rey final: Madrid Court orders the reinstatement of Mediapro in the call for tenders

The Commercial Court of Madrid has ordered the RFEF to suspend the allocation of broadcasting rights in Spain for the final of the 2019 Copa del Rey (FC Barcelona - Valencia CF, on 25/05/2019), and to reinstate the Chinese-Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro to the tender following a "a flagrant abuse of the position of dominance held by the RFEF," on 20/05/2019.

The rights to the final were awarded to the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE on 10/05/2019.
The clause excluding Mediapro is "so unilaterally disproportionate", without enough time to appeal and the time limits for granting these rights are "unusual and unconventional haste for an event such as this," said the Court.

Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, informed the members of the board of directors of his intention to exclude the audiovisual group Mediapro from the call for tenders for the audiovisual rights to the Copa del Rey and the Super Copa de España, during a meeting organised at the "Ciudad del Fútbol", the headquarters of the Spanish Federation near Madrid, on 09/04/2019.
