France: €264m in online sports betting recorded by ARJEL during the fourth quarter of 2013 (+ 41%)

€264m worth of online sports betting was recorded by ARJEL (French Regulatory Authority of Online Games) for the fourth quarter of 2013 (October, November and December 2013), an increase of 41% compared to the same period in 2012 (€187m), showed the quarterly market analysis for online games published on 06/02/2014.

Online football betting has increased by €49.4m (+ 39%) between the fourth quarters of 2012 and 2013. During the fourth quarter of 2013, 46m online football bets were registered, an increase of 24% compared to the same period in 2012. Over the whole year of 2013, the number of online registered bettors has increased by 20%.

The ARJEL report highlights a younger population of sports bettors, linked to strong growth in the use of mobile devices (smartphones and tablets). The share of bettors aged 18-24 years increased from 25% to 32% between 2012 and 2013. During the third quarter of 2013, 33% of the population of bettors are connected via mobile devices, against 21% for the same period in 2012.
