Portugal: Benfica TV surpasses 300,000 subscribers seven months after launch

The Portuguese pay-TV sport channel Benfica TV has surpassed 300,000 subscribers in the space of seven months, the Lisbon-based club announced on 10/02/2014. The Benfica TV channel was created on 10/12/2008, but is now only available to premium members as of 01/07/2013. Benfica TV has broadcast from the beginning of the 2013-14 season, in Portugal and abroad, the home matches of Benfica and as well as, among others, English Premier League matches.

"As the only club in the world to broadcast our own TV rights, the success has exceeded our highest expectations. Benfica TV has 307,872 subscribers to date," announced the club on 10/02/2014.

  • Benfica decided on 28/06/2013 to broadcast club home matches during the 2013-14 Portuguese season on Benfica TV.
  • The channel also holds, since February 2013, the exclusive broadcasting rights to the English Premier League in Portugal for the 2013-2016 period.
  • Subscriptions to the pay-TV channel began on 01/07/2013.
