FIFA: Castrol may not extend its sponsorship after the 2014 World Cup

No decisions will be made regarding future football sponsorships until after the World Cup," said the motor oil and lubricants brand Castrol on 11/02/2014.

Castrol may not extend its contract with FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) after the end of the 2014 World Cup. One of the causes of this possible withdrawal of Castrol is suspected to be the lack of brand awareness achieved in Asia, particularly in China, despite many different initiatives developed. The brand would leave a large vacancy, with FIFA, as of October 2013, already preparing tenders for regional sponsorship packages for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 edition in Qatar.
