Tennis: Japanese number 1 Naomi Osaka becomes an ambassador for Mastercard (payment solutions)

Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka (WTA) has become an ambassador for Mastercard, according to the American payment solutions group, on 23/05/2019. The announcement came ahead of the 2019 edition of Roland-Garros, of which the brand is also a partner, which began on 26/05/2019.

"The addition of Osaka speaks to the opportunity Mastercard sees in Asia as a region overall, including Japan. Mastercard has steadily built out its sponsorship strategy to ensure that both its ambassadors and partners reflect its global footprint and embody evolving consumer passions and preferences of its growing cardholder base," added Mastercard.

"Her presence as a Mastercard brand ambassador also reinforces the company’s focus on championing women in sports, investing in their professional careers and shining the light on gender inclusion," said the group.

• Mastercard first activated its partnership with Naomi Osaka through the presence of its logo on the player's cap during the Mutua Madrid Open (Spain) from 04 to 11/05/2019 (see photo below).
