"The gap with the rest of the league will, of course, be even greater," said Hans-Joachim Watzke, CEO of Borussia Dortmund, about the acquisition of an 8.33% stake in Bayern Munich by insurer Allianz for €110m on 13/02/2014.

Revenue for Bayern Munich reached €432.8m in 2012-13, nearly four times the average turnover in the Bundesliga (€120.5m) for the same season. "This was a predictable outcome, the talks have been going on for some time with Allianz. I can only congratulate the Bavarians on this agreement," said Hans-Joachim Watzke. "I've been talking about this evolution for 18, 15 and 12 years," said Peter Fischer, president of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Additional funds provided by the new investor will be used to repay debt incurred for the construction of Allianz Arena. Investment will also finance the expansion of the venue, which Bayern wishes to expand to 75,000 seats, from the current capacity of 71,137, in 2014. Funds will also be used to build a new youth training centre.
