"The overall size of the European football market continues to increase in revenue terms, reaching €28.4bn for 2017-18 (+11.4% from 2016-17)," states the "Annual Review of Football Finance 2019" by Sports Business Group, the UK arm of the audit and consultancy firm Deloitte, published on 30/05/2019. The cumulative revenues of the 98 clubs in the Top 5 European Leagues in 2017-18 represented 55% of the total (€15.6bn), up 6.1% (€14.7bn in 2016-17).

The Premier League was the Top 5 League that generated the most revenue in 2017-18 with a record amount of €5.44bn in 2017-18. "Having been displaced as Europe's second-richest league by LaLiga Santander in 2016-17, the commencement of new domestic and international broadcast deals pushed the German Bundesliga's total revenue to almost €3.2bn; back ahead of its Spanish rivals in 2017-18," explained Deloitte.

"The struggles of Serie A TIM to keep pace with the English, German and Spanish top-tier leagues continued in 2017-18, as revenue increases of 8% (to €2.2bn) failed to narrow the gap. The French top-tier, Ligue 1 Conforama, continued…
