UEFA: changes to the Laws of the Game will only apply in Europe from 25/06/2019

The changes to the Laws of the Game that were approved on 02/03/2019 by IFAB, and came into force on 01/06/2019, will only apply to all UEFA competitions from 25/06/2019 "in accordance with the flexibility granted by The International Football Association Board (IFAB)," announced the European body on 29/05/2019.

As a result, the new laws, which would have been implemented on 01/06/2019, were not applied during the 2019 Champions League final (Tottenham Hotspur FC - Liverpool FC, 0-2, at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, on 01/06/2019).

According to UEFA, "the new laws will also not be applied:
• At the UEFA Nations League finals in Portugal from 05-09/06/2019 June
• The 2018-20 European Qualifiers third and fourth matchdays in June
• The UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals in Italy from 16-30/06/2019
• The UEFA Regions' Cup finals in Bavaria, Germany from 18-26/06/2019."
