ECA: "We try to come up with answers that address European football as a whole" (A. Agnelli)

"We have a collective European view. Each one of us comes from a different country with a different league with different issues and opportunities. But we try to come up with answers that try to address European football as a whole - not individual markets," said Andrea Agnelli, chairman of the ECA, to representatives of 156 European clubs at the Extraordinary General Assembly held in Malta on 06 and 07/06/2019. The members of the ECA gathered to discuss the reform of European club competitions from 2024 onwards.

"What has been really disappointing so far has been the whole conversation has been driven by representatives of the big five leagues. And I see it as a protectionism of the big five leagues vis-a-vis the rest of European football," added Andrea Agnelli, also president of Juventus FC (Serie A TIM).

"As far as I am concerned, as far as the ECA is concerned, today is the start of the (consultation) process. There is a lot to be discussed and a lot of time to be dedicated to it... I want to make sure we find solutions together in the interest of European football," concluded…
