FIFA launches official accounts on two Chinese social networks Douyin and Toutiao

"FIFA has extended its digital outreach in China today by launching official accounts on popular digital platforms Douyin and Toutiao" and has become "the first football federation on Douyin and Toutiao," announced the international body on 06/06/2019.

"Building on FIFA's existing presence in the country with Weibo, FIFA will now be able to offer more content to fans across China through the two platforms and will expand its digital presence in country to four platforms, with FIFA accounts already active on WeChat (instant messaging platform) and Weibo," said the international Federation.

"FIFA launched their Chinese digital channels in March 2018, becoming the first football organisation to launch a WeChat Mini Program and growing over 10 million social followers in the first 12 months, becoming the fastest growing sports organisation online in China," added the world football governing body.

  • Douyin is a video sharing platform, with a version accessible outside China known as TikTok.
    • Douyin and TikTok have been downloaded 1 billion times in 150 countries (February 2019).
