"When we started in China in 2016, we had just a couple of hundred thousand followers (on local social media). Today, we already count more than four million Schalke fans on various social media channels in China. In addition, we want to show how close we are with the local fans by visiting the country with our team and play friendlies," said Alexander Jobst, board member in charge of marketing of FC Schalke 04 (Bundesliga), to News Tank Football on 20/06/2019.

In June 2018, Alexander Jobst extended his contract as a Schalke 04 board member until 2024. Schalke 04 posted record revenue of €350m (€305m non-transfer revenue) in 2018, including €80m in sponsorship, €15.7m in merchandising, and €14.2m from catering.
