French Senate: a fact finding mission to visit Arsenal on 19 and 20/02/2014

A delegation of the French Senate went to London to study the economic model of professional clubs and their relationships with local authorities. The visit is on 19 and 20/02/2014. This mission, led by Senator Michel Savin, was scheduled and approved by the Senate in October 2013.

The fact-finding mission will visit the Emirates Stadium with Michael Lloyd, assistant stadium manager of Arsenal. The senators previously traveled to Germany to meet with leaders of Bayern Munich and Schalke 04 on 11 and 12/02/2014.

The mission of the Senate examines economic issues and the financials of stadiums, and will make a report on these items in May or June 2014. This document will be used in the preparation of the draft of a law for sports programming that Valerie Fourneyron, French Minister of Sports, Youth, Popular Education and Associations, must submit to the Cabinet before the summer 2014.

  • The delegation will travel to Twickenham where it will meet Richard Knight, director of the stadium, and leaders of the English Rugby Union.
