Belgium: Anderlecht present a plan to expand its stadium to the City of Brussels

Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht (Belgium) presented a new plan for the extension of the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium to the City of Brussels on 18/02/2014.

Anderlecht revealed reworked plans after the original was not accepted by the municipality in February 2013. The stadium renovation includes the installation of an additional level to bring the venue to 30,300 seats (current capacity 26,300, including 6,000 standing). The new project involves the modification of the external façade, which will be reduced by eight meters from the first plans. The size of the new stadium was one of the main criticisms raised by residents during the public inquiry. The plans were designed by the architectural firm Jaspers & Eyers.

The decision of the Brussels-Capital Region is expected in mid-April 2014.

Anderlecht confirmed its desire to continue to reside in the Constant Vanden Stock stadium, while the mayor of Brussels, Freddy Thielmans, said that the club could invest in the future national stadium in order to show "pronounced interest," on 12/02/2013.
