Financial Fair Play: "Strict rules, may favour clubs with unlimited resources" (Olympique Marseille)

"A strict application of financial fair play rules, particularly in the context of a change of ownership, may only favour clubs with unlimited financial resources," said Olympique de Marseille (Ligue 1 Conforama) in response to the publication, on 19/06/2019, of the settlement agreement between the Investigatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) and the Marseille club, due to it's failure to comply UEFA's Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations.

"Olympique Marseille undertakes to report a maximum break-even deficit of €30m in financial year ending in 2020, €0m for the financial year ending in 2021 and finally reach full break-even compliance by monitoring period 2022-23 (i.e. financial years ending in 2020, 2021 and 2022)," states the settlement agreement that covers four seasons, from 2019-20 to 2022-23. Olympique de Marseille posted a net loss of €78.6m at the end of the 2017-18 financial year, after posting a loss of €42.4m in 2016-17.
