LaLiga Santander: Real Valladolid's Estadio José Zorrilla capacity to be increased to 28,106 (+6%)

Real Valladolid CF (LaLiga Santander) has started work to modernise the Estadio José Zorrilla (26,512 capacity), which will increase the capacity of the stadium by 1,594 seats to 28,106 (+6%) for the 2019-20 season, according to the club on 14/06/2019.

The work - estimated at €2m by several Spanish media - mainly concerns the removal of the trench that separates the stands from the pitch. This removal will lower the ground level by 80 centimetres and create three new rows of seats, which will be almost at pitch level. The work is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of the 2019-20 season, for which the club has asked LaLiga to play its first three games away from home.

"This stadium needs a major update because football has changed a lot since 1982. The trenches were a safety instrument in the 1980s and Valladolid has the only one left, which imposes difficulties for the management of the site and for the public.
