Belgium: Mehdi Bayat named president of the Belgian Football Association which changes its structure

"Mehdi Bayat, 40 years old, is the new president of the Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB/URBSFA). He was elected at the expense of Gilbert Timmermans (15 votes to 7) to succeed Gérard Linard, who has held the position since 2017 and who had reached the age limit (he was born on 06/03/1943)," announced the Belgian Association after an extraordinary general assembly held on 22/06/2019.

"The new president will have a more ceremonial role, to represent the FA at official meetings, and to support the association's management, who will work under new structures in accordance with the Football Association's good governance programme aimed in particular at enhancing transparency," said UEFA on 25/06/2019.

"Bayat is the twelfth president in the association's history, and has been elected for a two-year term. Bayat has been CEO of Belgian top-flight club Royal Charleroi Sporting Club since 2012, after having worked there as commercial director since 2003, as well as serving as the youngest member of the Belgian national association's board of directors," added UEFA.
