Ukraine-USA friendly match on 05/03/2014 still on schedule says U.S. Soccer

"We are in communication with the (U.S.) State Department and are monitoring the situation in Ukraine," said U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe on 19/02/2014. "We are still planning on playing the game on 05/03/2014."

Buethe said the U.S. federation works with the State Department and local government officials when planning all away games, and the violent events on 18/02/2014 in Kiev have not led to the cancellation of the fixture. The friendly match is scheduled to be played in Kharkiv, which is located 300 miles west of Kiev.

The U.S. national team will hold a short training camp in Frankfurt (GER) on 03 and 04/03/2014 prior to match. The U.S. contingent will then travel directly to Kharkiv with a chartered plane, and avoid travelling through Kiev.

Buethe said the match could be still be cancelled if the violence spreads outside of Kiev.
