Nike: turnover up 7% (to €35.1bn) and football revenue down 6% (to €1.9bn) in 2019

Nike posted a turnover of $39.1bn (€35.1bn) for the fiscal year 2019 (from 01/06/2018 to 31/05/2019), up 7% (+11% excluding the impact of exchange rates) compared to 2018 ($34.5bn/€29.7bn), announced the American equipment manufacturer on 27/06/2019.

The Nike brand contributed 95% of the group's revenues in 2018 ($37.2bn/€33.4bn), while the Converse footwear brand contributed the rest ($1.9bn/€1.7bn, 5% of the total). Although North America is the Nike brand's leading market with $10bn in revenue (€9bn, +8%), it was the Chinese market that experienced the strongest growth, with turnover up 24% in 2019, to $5.1bn (€4.5bn).

The footwear category posted $24.2bn (€21.7bn) in revenue (+12%), or 65% of the Nike brand's total. The entire football range posted $2.14bn (€1.93bn) of "wholesale equivalent revenues" down 6% year-on-year, and represents 6.5% of the Nike brand's total ($32.5bn/€29.1bn).

"Demand creation expenses" - which include "digital demand creation, sports marketing and brand events" - reached $3.75bn (€3.3bn), up 5%. The Nike group posted a gross margin of $17.4bn (€15.6bn…
