France: Canal+ wants €46m compensation from the LFP for postponed matches for "Yellow Vest" protests

The French TV group Canal+ has taken the LFP to the commercial court of Paris to obtain reparations following the a series of postponed matches during the 2018-19 Ligue 1 Conforama season during the crisis of the Gilets jaunes protests "(Yellow Vests") throughout France, and wants €46m from the League, according to French media on 07/04/2019.

Canal+ reportedly recorded an average TV audience drop of 37% on the 12 Ligue 1 Conforama matches concerned, and 51% drop on the Coupe de la Ligue BKT semi-final between Girondins de Bordeaux and RC Strasbourg Alsace, which was advanced to 18:45 CET instead of 21:00, on 30/01/2019, according to the French sports daily L'Équipe.

"With the greatest casualty regarding the sums in play for Canal+, the LFP has postponed matches without, except in one single case, being imposed by a prefecture decision, but also without trying to implement alternative solutions to postponement, or to involve Canal+ in the search for such solutions," stated Canal+ in 23-page document formally served to the LFP.
