"We have to adapt the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán to modern times. We have invested between €7m and €8m recently, and we intend to expand the stadium with a third ring to increase capacity. Half of the matches were sold out," said José Castro, president of Sevilla FC (LaLiga Santander), during a meeting with the club's supporters' groups on 03/07/2019.

Work done in the summer of 2018 has increased the capacity of the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán to 45,500 places. Sevilla FC, the resident club of the compound which it also owns, is carrying out new work during the summer of 2019 to renovate the Preferencia tribune and has asked LaLiga to play its first two matches of the 2019-20 season both away.

The planned expansion of the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán would provide a third ring with a total capacity of 60,000 to 70,000 places. "There is a desire to enlarge the stadium, but it takes time because we have to do it on the same surface as we currently have, strengthening the structure of the stadium, and without ceasing to play matches in our stadium," said José Castro.
