Neymar case: Barcelona denies fraud, but declare €13.5m in additional taxes

"Given the existence of a possible divergent interpretation of the exact amount of tax responsibility arising from the signing and to defend the Club’s reputation and good name, FC Barcelona has this morning made a complementary tax declaration of a total of €13,550,830.56 (...) to cover any potential interpretation made concerning the contracts signed in the transfer process for Neymar, although we remain convinced that the original tax payment was in line with our fiscal obligations," said the Catalan club on 24/02/2014.

FC Barcelona was officially indicted for tax evasion as a legal person in the case of the transfer of Brazilian striker Neymar on 20/02/2014. The Audiencia Nacional (main Spanish criminal court) believes that to ensure the transfer of the player, FC Barcelona paid companies related to Neymar up to €10m in 2011 and €27.92m in 2013, without paying the Spanish Treasury €9.1m in resulting taxes therefrom.
