UK/Ireland: Virgin Media extends its agreement to distribute Sky Sports channels

The telecommunications operator Virgin Media has extended its agreement to distribute the sports and cinema channels of its competitor Sky in the United Kingdom and Ireland on 18/07/2019. The duration of the agreement has not been officially communicated but is expected to be five years, as for the current contract (2014-2019), according to British media.

The new deal will allow Virgin Media to offer Sky content in ultra-high definition (4K).

Sky and BT, another British telecommunications operator, also concluded a multi-year agreement to distribute each other's sports channels from the 2019-20 Premier League season (09/08/2019), the first year of the English league's 2019-2022 rights cycle, on 15/12/2017.

Virgin Media customers will have access to the 10 Sky Sports channels:

• Sky Sports Main Event: the main events from Sky's sports rights catalog
• Sky Sports Premier League: 128 out of 200 Premier League Top English professional football division. 20 clubs. matches per season broadcast live (2019-2022 cycle)
