AFCON 2019: Algeria crowned champions, CAF president satisfied with the tournament's organisation

"We can just be satisfied about the AFCON 2019: new format with 24 teams, only 6 months of preparation, high-level of security, good arbitration. This football competition is a success!" said Ahmad Ahmad (MAD), president of CAF, on Twitter on 18/07/2019, the eve of the final of the competition, the organisation of which was granted to Egypt on 08/01/2019, 164 days ahead of the opening match (Egypt - Zimbabwe, 1-0, on 21/06/2019).

Algeria were crowned as 2019 Africa Cup of Nations champions after beating Senegal, 1-0, at the Cairo International Stadium (75,000 capacity) in Egypt on 19/07/2019.

"It has been a success in every respect. We can always ask for more in terms of the number of spectators in the stadiums, but in the face of security concerns, we did not want to be flexible on security arrangements and I applaud the Egyptian government for the quality of the organisation," said Ahmad Ahmad.
