FIFA TMS: European Top 5 participate in 66% of spending in 2013-14 international transfers

The Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, Liga BBVA and Ligue 1 account for 66% of all expenditure for international transfers (from one national association to another) performed worldwide between 01/06/2013 and 31/01/2014, showed FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) on 13/02/2014. This represents $2.2b (€1.6b) of a total of $3.4b (€2.47b).

FIFA presented the main results of the first edition of the study "BIG 5: Transfer Window Analysis January 2014," conducted by the Swiss company FIFA TMS and available for purchase on its website. The paper analyses the value and volume of transactions carried out by the European Top 5 in the summer transfer market of 2013 and winter transfer of 2014.

However, even though five major European championships represent two-thirds of global spending on international transfers, they represent only 34% of the number of transactions in 2013-14 (3,465 movements of a total of 10,060). By itself, the Premier League accounts for 26% of the expenditure of international transfers in 2013-14, or $885m (approximately €644m).
