Ukraine-USA international friendly match moved to Cyprus due to political unrest in the country

The international friendly between Ukraine and the USA, due to be played on 05/03/2014 in Kharkiv (UKR), will now be played that same day on the island of Cyprus, U.S. Soccer announced on 25/02/2014. The change of location is due to the recent spread of violence in Ukraine from Kiev to other parts of the country.

“After discussions with the Ukrainian Football Federation, we have decided not to play in Ukraine on March 5 and are planning to move the match to a city in Cyprus. We are in the final stages of discussions with Ukraine and the Cyprus Football Association to determine the location and kickoff time. We hope to have confirmation on all the match details by Wednesday (26/02/2014),” stated U.S. Soccer nine days before the scheduled match.

The US federation had announced on 19/02/2014 that the friendly match between Ukraine and USA would go ahead as scheduled in Kharkiv (UKR). The change occurs after the federation has been working closely with the U.S. State Department, which has been monitoring the situation in Ukraine.
