Charles Coppolani was named president of ARJEL (Regulatory Authority for Online Gaming and Betting) on 24/02/2014, appointed by the President of the French Republic. This appointment came after the resignation of Jean-François Vilotte in January 2014, who left to join a Paris law firm.

“Being aware of the serious need to protect players from the risk of addiction, which is particularly acute in online gaming, and seeking to arrange for approved operators and legalise optimal economic conditions will be the main goals during the president's term,” said ARJEL on 25/02/2014.

In addition to the presidency of the Regulatory Authority, Charles Coppolani is also the president of the Observatory, and the head of Economics and Finance at the French Ministry of Economy and Finance. Coppolani, like other members of ARJEL, has been elected for six years and his term cannot be revoked or renewed.
