2019-20 Serie BKT: opening match on 23/08/2019 and a set of "boxing day" matches

The 2019-20 calendar of the Serie BKT was presented in Ascoli (ITA) on 06/08/2019 (document to download). This is the 88^th edition of this competition nicknamed "the Championship of Italians", which nevertheless celebrates its 90^th anniversary, since it could not be played in 1943-44 and in 1944-45 because of the Second World War.

With the field returned to 20 clubs (compared to 19 clubs in 2018-19 and 22 in the previous seasons) the first matchday of 2019-20 is scheduled on Saturday 24/08/2019, with an opening match the day before, on Friday 23/08/2019. The 2019-20 Serie BKT will end on Thursday 14/05/2020 (Matchday 38).

If the Serie A TIM has decided to abandon, in 2019-20, the "boxing day" matchday established in 2018-19, it has been maintained in the Serie BKT, judging that this innovation has "met with great success both at the level of the public and the sports show: after the matchday on 21/12/2019, there will be the 'boxing day' matchday on Thursday 26/12/2019, then another matchday on Sunday 29/12/2019.
