2019-2022 Premier League TV rights: average £3.12bn per season +9%, including £1.45bn from abroad

The sale of the domestic and international TV rights to the Premier League over the 2019-2022 cycle is expected to yield £9.35bn (€10.1bn), or an average of £3.12bn (€3.37bn) per season, for the English elite division, according to UK media.

This amount is up almost 9% compared to the 2016-2019 cycle (£8.6bn). This increase is driven primarily by a 35% increase in international TV rights, estimated at £4.35bn (€4.71bn) in total, or an average of £1.45bn (€1.57bn) per season, while domestic TV rights have fallen by around 7%. This after two consecutive cycles (2013-2016 and 2016-2019) of more than 70% growth each in the UK domestic market.

The competition between the UK operators Sky and BT, the origin of these spectacular increases during the two previous cycles, has eased following the signing of an agreement between the two companies which allows them to market their sport offers reciprocally, on 15/12/2017.
