Manchester United: no derby for fans who do not buy tickets to Olympiakos match

Manchester United (Premier League) warned its supporters by email on 25/02/2014 that their season ticket passes would be suspended for the derby match against Manchester City (28^th Matchday, 25/03/2014) if they did not buy tickets for the Champions League Round of 16 match against Olympiakos Piraeus (GRE).

Fans had until 20:00 on 27/02/2014 (the deadline was originally 25/02/2014, but it has since been adjusted and extended) to buy a ticket for the match against the Greek club, which will be played on 19/03/2014. The club wants to avoid playing at Old Trafford (76,000 seats) in front of empty stands after their 2-0 defeat in the first leg.

Manchester United established a policy in 2012-13 forcing season ticket holders to buy tickets for matches to FA Cup and Champions League matches. If the fans do not meet these conditions, their subscription is suspended for a match of the Barclays Premier League. If their seats are then sold for the match, season ticket holders may then request a refund at the end of the 2013-14 season. Season ticket prices ranged from €648 to €1157 in 2013-14.
