MLS: Nelson Rodriguez named chairman of Chivas USA for the 2014 season

Nelson Rodriguez was appointed chairman of the MLS (Major League Soccer) franchise, Chivas USA, on 26/02/2014. He will hold the position during the 2014 season until the club finds a new group of owners. Chivas USA was acquired by the MLS on 20/02/2014, for an estimated $70m (approximately €51m).

"I am thankful for the opportunity and recognise the responsibility in what is an important season for the club," said Nelson Rodriguez on 26/02/2014. "Regardless of the ownership status, this team and staff will compete on all fronts and we look forward to the challenge."

I have had the privilege of working with Nelson for over 14 years and am very pleased that he has agreed to serve as the president of Chivas USA," said Don Garber, commissioner of the MLS on 26/02/2014. "Based on his long experience on both the business and sporting side of our game, I have great confidence that he will provide strong leadership for the club during this transition year."
