"As the guarantor of the observance of the statutes of the LFP (French Professional Football League) and of a democratic vote, I am perfectly confident regarding the legality and legitimacy (of the agreement), taken in the best interests of French football," said Frédéric Thiriez, president of the LFP on 28/02/2014 about the agreement signed on 24/01/2014 with AS Monaco.

An appeal against this agreement, which authorises the club from Monaco to keep its headquarters in the Principality in exchange of €50m paid over the course of the next two years, was filed before the French State Council on 18/02/2014 by seven club presidents from Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.

"The decision by the board of directors of the League is final and irrevocable. It commits the institution," added Frédéric Thiriez in a statement published on the website of the LFP. Those who dispute the decision are free to take the decision to the Court of Appeal of the State Council, as they have done, although it is at the expense of the clubs themselves.
