Women's football (ESP): Mediapro prevented from broadcasting game, denounces interference from RFEF

Madrid CFF (Primera Iberdrola) prevented the Chinese-Spanish media group Mediapro from accessing its facilities for their game of Matchday 1 of the Spanish women's first division against Real Betis Balompié, on Sunday 08/09/2019.

Mediapro has acquired the rights to broadcast, in Spain, the competition from the Association of Spanish Women's Football Clubs (ACFF), for the 2019-2022 period, for an amount of €9m (€3m per season), on 07/03/2019.

The ACFF is in conflict with the RFEF, which wanted to market the rights of women's football clubs in a centralized manner. The Madrid Commercial Court ruled that the women's football clubs were the holders of their individual broadcasting rights, on 30/07/2019.

"Mediapro will denounce this violation of the club, which voted in favor of the attribution of the rights to Mediapro. The interference of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, which seeks to buy rights already granted and threatens the clubs with sanctions, disturbs the development of the Iberdrola Liga," stated the Chinese-Spanish audiovisual group on 08/09/2019.
