Ligue 1: Montpellier HSC teams up with BeGenius to launch an eSports team on FIFA and Rocket League

Montpellier Hérault Sport Club (Ligue 1 Conforama) has launched its first eSports team by joining forces with the Montpellier-based BeGenius ESC for 2019-20, according to the club on 02/09/2019. The team will play on EA Sport's FIFA 20 (football simulation) video games and Rocket League (a car football game published by Psyonix).

Enzo "EnzHaut" Ropert and Moussa "Diakité JR" Diakité, will play for the French club for the 2019-20 season and will participate in the Orange e-Ligue 1, a competition played on FIFA 20. Antonin "Hooups" Aoustin, Mehdi "Iryzer" Kheloui and Hugo "Maaivy" De Carvalho will participate in tournaments on Rocket League.

According to the club, Montpellier HSC wanted to join a "sector whose legal, economic and social challenges are developing at an incredible pace." The French club had previously "temporarily" launched an eSports team on the FIFA 17 video game during the Montpellier eSports Show, on 25 and 26/02/2017 in order to "analyse the feasibility and relevance of a 'MHSC eSport Club' team," said the club on 20/02/2017.
