Cardiff City: Premier League asks Vincent Tan to explain the £3.7m bonuses offered to players

The Premier League will seek clarification from Vincent Tan, owner of Cardiff City (Premier League), after he promised his players a collective premium of £3.7m (€4.5m) if they maintain in the Premier League at the end of the season, ahead of their trip to Tottenham (0-1, 28^th matchday) on 02/03/2014. The Welsh club occupies the 19^th ranking of the English Premier League with 10 matches left until the end of the 2013-14 season.

The approach of the Malaysian owner of Cardiff is against the regulations of the Premier League, which stipulates that the criteria for awarding bonuses and premiums to English Premier League players must be written in their contract and registered with the League prior to the season. No derogation is permitted during the season.

Cardiff City could be fined and/or have points withdrawn, but the Premier League may not be severe because according to British media, Vincent Tan withdrew his offer after leaders of the club realised that it violated the regulations of the League.
