Renovation of Camp Nou: Barça socios to decide by referendum on 05/04/2014

FC Barcelona (Liga) will hold a referendum among their socios to accept or reject the project of renovating Camp Nou on 05/04/2014 from 09:00 to 21:00. The steering committee of the club voted in favour of a renovation project for a total cost of €600m on 20/01/2014.

Only socios over 18 and registered for at least one year may vote in the election. Barça have 170,000 socios as of 2014. Fans pay €177 per year for a socio status, in addition to voting for presidential elections and referendums, it provides discounts for matches of the basketball team of the club and allows for free access to matches of the B football team.

Of the €600m project, €420m will be spent on the renovation of Camp Nou, €90m for the construction of the Palau Blaugrana (an arena of 10,000 seats), and €90m will be devoted to creating more parking (5,000 spaces), at the new Mini Estadi (home of the youth teams) and Espai Barça (retail space).

The new Camp Nou will have a capacity of 105,000 covered seats against 99,350 seats currently. Work should begin in May 2017 and end in February 2021.
