U.S. automobile manufacturer, Ford, will no longer sponsor the Champions League after the 2013-14 season, confirmed UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) to News Tank on 11/03/2014.

Ford has sponsored the Champions League since the 1992-93 edition. The 21 years partnership had allowed the American brand to promote the Ford Mondeo, S-Max, Kuga, B-Max, as well as new generations of the Fiesta and Focus. The new Ford Mustang will be presented at the final of the 2014 Champions League in Lisbon on 24/05/2014.

This decision comes as the company reduced its loss by 8% to €1.15b euros in the European market in 2013. Ford plans to close three factories in Europe in 2014. The brand has however seen its turnover increase by 10% worldwide in 2013, to €106b. Ford will focus on the launch of 25 models worldwide in 2014, a record for the group.

UEFA is looking for a new car partner for the Champions League. It has already partnered with the Korean company, Hyundai Motor Group (via its brands Hyundai and Kia) for the playoffs and the finals of Euro 2016.
